Best credit cards for the business
A business credit card separates your business expenses from your personal life, builds business credit, and unlocks earning rates on the categories small businesses actually spend in: software subscriptions, advertising, shipping, takeout for the team. The right business card has a meaningful welcome bonus, earns at 3× or higher on business-relevant categories, and either has no annual fee or charges one you'd pay off in months on category spend.
What we look for
- Earns bonus rewards on business-typical categories: ads, software, shipping, dining, internet/phone.
- Annual fee is justified by category earning in roughly the first quarter of typical small-business spend.
- Treats employee cards as a feature, not a $50/year add-on per card.
What to watch for
- Business cards don't appear on personal credit reports unless the issuer pulls one for approval. That's an advantage for 5/24, but check the issuer's policy.
- Personal liability is the default for small-business cards. The 'business' label doesn't protect you from delinquency consequences.
